Description

The Interpreter Training Preparation Certificate meets the rising demand for qualified and skilled interpreters in the U.S. and globally. Our online, flexible courses are ideal for those with a strong theoretical understanding of American Sign Language (or another signed language) seeking practical skills. This program equips students to interpret effectively and ethically. A prerequisite is a proficiency in ASL (or another signed language), demonstrated by a SLPI score of Intermediate Plus or higher. With 27 total credits, students can finish in one year, taking three courses each semester. This certificate is complete in and of itself but can be a pathway for certificate bearers to continue studies in the Deaf Studies undergraduate program at Carolina University.

Admissions Requirements

  • Communication proficiency in ASL as demonstrated by a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) score of Intermediate Plus or above
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended schools
  • Completed application with Carolina University
  • Complete a written and ASL video essay

Graduation Requirements

In order to become a candidate for graduation a student:

  1. Shall complete all credit hours at CU;
  2. Shall have maintained a minimum academic average of C (higher for some programs);
  3. Shall have passed all courses in his/her curriculum and made a C or better in key courses designated as essential in each program.
