Description
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Criminal Justice program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system, its components, and its impact on society. Students engage in foundational coursework that covers topics such as criminology, criminal law and procedure, policing, corrections, criminal investigations, and criminal justice ethics. Students gain hands-on learning experiences through internships and simulation courses covering topics such as crime scene investigation, forensic analysis, victim advocacy, and crisis intervention. This program integrates theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for careers in law enforcement, corrections, homeland security, and related fields.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate effective research methods and communication skills, which include quantitative and qualitative data gathering and analysis, writing, oral communication, teamwork, and self-directed work
- Demonstrate an understanding of the causes of crime, the criminal law, justice system, and the corrections process
- Demonstrate an understanding of how the issues of race, diversity, and socio-economic disadvantage impact criminal justice
- Evidence an ability to incorporate ethical and legal guidelines in addition to professional values
- Demonstrate an ability to recognize and apply relevant theoretical models from criminology and socio-legal studies
- Demonstrate the professional skills needed to function effectively in the 21st century law enforcement context
Admissions Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED
- Credentials earned outside of the US must be evaluated by an approved agency
- GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
- Completed application with Carolina University
Graduation Requirements
- Shall have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0;
- Shall have passed all courses in the curriculum and made a C- or better in professional core courses;
- Shall have completed at least 24 of the final 30 hours with Carolina University.
