From an ecological perspective, this course will explore social, cultural, behavioral, and psychological factors that affect a population's health and health disparities over the life course. While public health recognizes a myriad of factors that can contribute to population health outcomes, this course emphasizes the relationship between behaviors and health. The course also introduces some of the educational and environmental strategies that can be used to change health related behaviors. Research and practice in the social and behavioral sciences contribute to the development, administration, and evaluation of public health programs and policies to promote and sustain healthy environments and healthy lives. Through course lectures and activities, students will develop health promotion planning and evaluation skills and appreciate the variety of approaches from various disciplines that can inform public health practice and research.
